Battery experts - golf cart

The GF's 36v golf cart needs batteries. I donated 6-12v 80ah AGMs, but the local cart guy is saying they won't charge properly because the charger expects "a certain amount of lead". That sounds ridiculous, but, there's a spec written on the charger saying it's designed for "18 cells" meaning, 6-6v batteries. I'm claiming that chargers recognize voltage alone, and the number of cells or amount of lead makes no difference.

I'm awaiting a response from the Lester charger people on this. What say you battery gurus?

Guessing I'd say 20 years, or more. I can get the model number tomorrow.
  • How much could he fix you up for? LOL He knows you are loaded. Many industrial or cart chargers need to see a MINIMUM voltage to be able to turn on but dont care what they are pumping the juice to. If the charger was set up to charge wet cells it may be too high of a finish voltage for agm. Depends on what the manufacturer of your agm say. Plug it in and monitor the voltage.

I have a 48 v Lester industrial charger on four 12 v series dual purpose Samuals batteries. They hit 61 volts every charge. ages: 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit 45 v.

How old is your Lester? Model number?
  • Finish voltage 14.4
Finish amperes ,30 that's point three zero.

Time is the factorial. Hopefully you can manually limit time on that charger.

Sounds like the golf car mechanic has a surplus of lead
50% of which lies between the ears
And you know where to find the remainder.
  • Ah yes, correct. 18 cells in series, then in parallel. Thanks!
  • Either way it is the same number of cells in series. You have three in series and two parallel yes? Still 18 cells. Hopefully the charger goes 43/44 volts for absorption.

There are many technicians who really need to go back to school.

And don't even talk about salesmen.
