Battery isn't charging

Hi,

My slide outs aren't working on my Coachmen 39HBS trailer (2012). Though, awning is retracting. I connected car battery in parallel to RV one and could operate slides. The voltage on the battery is 11.46 regardless if 110 AC power connected to trailer or not. Fuses on the back of the converter are OK. Converter is humming when lights are on. I'm suspecting that charger isn't boosting the battery. What can be a possible cause of not charging the battery? Thanks.

  • Either what has already been mentioned or a bad converter. :)
  • A couple of months ago I had exactly the same problem. What it was in my case was the main white wire coming out of the converter was not tight. If you can, reach around the output wires, and if you feel a hot one, you might have a loose connection like I did.

When I wiggled the wire, suddenly the lights inside came on brightly as the converter voltage was suddenly connected to the battery and charging.

If you have a laser thermometer, point it around the connection points, if there is a loose wire, it will likely be hot.
