"You will get great advice here if not a bit gruff at times"
Who? Me?
Some heads are harder than others. Dogma and superstitions die hard as well.
JiminDenver,
Don't worry about horsewhipping him. The battery going dead during a precious vacation is torture enough. Some folks kept bringing back sulfated batteries and demanding new ones. While they waited I cut the lid off their old battery, yanked upward, dipped the dripping assembly in a bucket of water, grabbed a screwdriver and returned to the counter. I then used the screwdriver to wedge apart the plates.
"See this residue? It's called sulfation. It is caused by chronic undercharging he battery. This is your problem and you have to fix it, not us". I then offered them a printed sheet on battery charging. If they were nice I would offer them a new replacement, with warranty. If they knew more than I did about batteries I would rubber stamp NO WARRANTY on their receipt. Very few stomped off. Those that did, were like winnowing wheat for chaff. Money in the bank.
Very few folks need to be bonked over the head with a mallet to learn. My price for trying to contribute here is that I sometimes get crabby and sarcastic. Usually humorous sarcasm - but I usually get my point across.
