So, it actually uses 1/2 the gas to power the 45 amper for 2 hours with the 2000i than it does to power a 15 amper for 5 hours with the 650. It's all about efficiency vs. waste.
Huh???? :h
My EX650 takes about 1/2 gallon to run 5 hours at it's full rated 550 watts. The 2000i takes about 1/2 gallon to run 4.8 hours at 1/4 of it's rated 1600 watts (400 watts).
It appears to me that the EX650 has the edge, or at the very least it's a wash between the two charging methods and generators.
Remember ... I already owned (given to me, actually) the EX650 and the 13.8 volt fixed voltage converter came in the RV we had already bought. The RV's wet cell batteries failed on warranty after 9 months of use, so the dealer replaced them with the two 100AH AGM batteries that I chose that cost me about $47 each (above the warranty allowance).
It was a no-brainer to utilize to the fullest what I already had ... and in the process learn the difference between RV battery charging flukey-dust and the real world.
What I "should finally buy" is one of these for the ultimate flexible-use backup to our small charging generator approach - especially for cold weather camping. I'll look in Quartzite and Yuma this winter for a good deal:
