Hi Phil,
Be sure to not pay more than about $1. per watt for the panels.
Don,
Those great, waterproof, weatherproof, ruggedly-cased, and fully portable foldup Zamp "suitcase" solar arrays are worth well more than $1 per watt!
That's the price one has to pay to eliminate the:
- Holes in the roof or questionable glue jobs to the roof,
- inability to fully crawl around on the roof to perform maintenance or repairs,
- inability to fully get at rubber roofs to periodically seal them,
- and danger from scraping those cells on tree limbs ... that comes with having solar panels permanently mounted on the RV roof.
Since we have a MH and don't believe in tow vehicles, we never will be leaving our rig - with strangers around - so as to risk getting them stolen when they're sitting out and about pointed precisely at the sun at all times. When we go someplace, it will be after packing away the panels in the MH we travel in.
Of course, this extra precaution with portable panels probably means we shouldn't try to over-night in Wal**rt parking lots with the panels set up outside trying to glean some free nighttime power from the overhead night-lights. :E
