Battery life cycle counter

Since my (everyone’s?) depth of discharge is different every day, who is to say I’ve used a full cycle on any given day? Can’t “count” that.

I think as others have said battery life is more that cycles of charging. I think most batteries die from sulfation from insufficient charging, at the other end of the spectrum is plate shedding from over charging which does not get talked about on here often. For this reason I don't keep mine plugged in all the time but recharge in shallow cycles 10-20% but equalize and desulfate several times a year.

Doesn't seem practical to me. What's a battery cycle? 20% or 40% and for how long before recharging, etc. Many variable come into play.

Instead measure the battery capacity when new and then say once a year to see where they are at which can help determine replacement. But determining when they will fail requires a crystal ball.

I have a battery monitor but don't track the house battery history. And it was the chassis batteries that failed since 2011. In 2011 all of the batteries failed load testing no doubt due to neglect by the prior owner. He passed and no history during those 2 years.

ISTR the Trimetric monitor can do that, but haven't read the details.

There's just such a thing on my laptop computers, but between you and me, it's never been much use. I've had laptops for well over twenty years, including one that turns 19 this year and is still used to do my accounting. I've had to replace batteries on them several times, and every one of those batteries bit the big one well before the cycle counter thought it should. Didn't matter NiMH or Li-ion. So, yeah, would be nice to have some kind of indicator to suggest how long before replacement will be required, it appears nobody knows how to do that, yet.

Nothing I know about
It would need to be voltage sensitive
And count the number of times a battery voltage went below a certain voltage, then back up to full
Mine are charged discharged everyday
These batteries have over 700 cycles on them

I think most people just count the number of days camping,or the number of weekend trips, if they only charge at home by plugging into shore power

While life is more about how they are used/abused (too deep discharged, Not fully recharged) than how many cycles
Though lots of deep discharges does hurt most batteries
The first consideration, is what do you think is a use cycle ?
Use 20% and recharge, or is it use 50% and recharge
