- RJsfishinExplorerYou can take'm all away, except my voltmeters.
Once I learned to read a voltmeter (under many conditions) that's all I really "need".
#2 load tester (has its place)
#3 I'd like to get an impedence tester (do some experimenting)
hydrometer never made the list - Chris_BryantExplorer II

My takeaway- there is no "one". In order of acquiring, I would use hydrometer -> load bank -> impedance meter. - RJCorazzaExplorerI also use the big 3 (carbon pile, hydrometer, impedance). The impedance meter is most useful (IMHO) when used to chart battery performance from new.

You're a perfect example of a first class idiot !
Please, don't reply to any of my posts ever again. ! - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerDid you open it's mouth and look at it's teeth?
- RJsfishinExplorerI can remember more than once bringing a problem battery that tested good in every which way but loose, back for warranty, but being afraid they would say it is good, but their electronic testers found the problem both times.
- jeffwhiteExplorerThat makes sense, but certainly better than nothing........
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerBATTERY THAT WOULD SHOW HIGH IMPEDENCE therefore testing clearly BAD
But Wait!
There's More!
Some plate to plate dendrites making "Bad" even worse. But impedence-wise, pulling the wool over the eyes of the impedence meter.
Don't get sold a-bill-of-goods that such meters are foolproof. Each protocol of battery testing has strengths and weaknesses. Using two of the three protocols reduces error by a factor of perhaps, tenfold.
