2 batteries, 6 or 12v, is the same as 1 bigger battery when connected in parallel
If they are 6v, yes, connect them in series to charge/maintain them as 12v
If they are 12v, they must connect in parallel to charge as 12v.
If they are 6v, yes, connect them in series to charge/maintain them as 12v
