DrewE's suggestion of the Trik-L-Start is actually the best and easiest solution if you want to keep separate batteries. I had forgotten about it. When I had a motor home, I use the Trik-L-Start to keep the chassis battery charged when plugged in for extended periods. Worked like a champ. Permanently install it and forget it. (It has the battery isolator function built in.)
