Battery recommendation

Or my 2-volt cells, which each are about the size of an 8-D footprint. But way taller. Like forty inches. Never had a chance to check competitive brands but 40" tall 2-volt cells do not exist anymore.

If you have the headroom and need capacity consider the L-16 :B

Apples to oranges. The same footprint would be a good idea when comparing the capacity of various batteries.

A battery's capacity isn't dictated solely by it's footprint ... a GC-2 may have a shorter footprint than a G31 but it's also taller than a G24 or G27 or G31.

A pair of Trojan 24TMX, which are equivalent in size to GC-2's would have a 170 AH capacity compared to GC-2's (225 AH)

With a little care in selection this need not be true at all ... a pair of G31 12 volt deep cycle batteries often easily equal a pair of GC-2 6 volt batteries in terms of rated 20 Hr AH capacity, in some cases even exceed them. A case in point - a pair of Trojan's infamous T-105s are 20 Hr rated @ 225 AH, a pair of Trojan's 31XHS 12 volts are 20 Hr rated @ 260 AH. The devil is in the details. ;)

true, but if the OP is just using them in the evening to watch TV or a few lights, then recharge in the daytime even on decent 12V marine may more than satisfy his needs. especially if they don't need to run the furnace.

IMHO if your most often hooked to shore power and only need batteries for evenings occasionally GC while good are overkill.

And I'm one who uses GC 4 of them since we boondock for weeks at a time. But others I know that only dry camp for an evening or so I've said try one or two 12V, and they come back with yup guess I didn't need to spend money on GC batteries.

I expect to be hooked to shore power at RV parks (and water) for most of our longer duration trips, or be running the generator. Only expect to be using battery power during quiet hours at RV parks or whenever we don't need AC for TV, MW, etc.

then a single or pair of 12V "marine" batteries and an upgrade to the WFCO converter to a PD or Iota drop in replacement. the drop in will do a better job of fast charging the batteries and getting them to full charge.

And 1 or 2 12V batteries will likely last you through the day or more and be inexpensive.

A pair of GC 6V would last longer but cost more and you'd probably not see any real benefit. If you wanted to go the 6V route I'd suggest a pair from Costco or Sam's club. way less expensive than a pair of Trojans, which likely would be overkill for you.

It has a new Interstate battery now so I will likely match it with another Interstate once I get the converter issue taken care of. If down the road I find that isn't working I will replace them with 4 6V GC batteries.

I bought "the twins" for the times in Arizona that I needed the Air conditioner and didn't want to piss off everyone within 100 yards of me with one of those the Chinese rattlers. The Solar usually kept the battery up unless it was raining at which point I usually put one of them under the camper. The Hondas are so quiet we were able to sleep with them running.
