The SOLE hydrometer I have faith in is the FREAS. Go into any battery manufacturer's production area and that's all you'll see. Some engineers carry the prism gravity meters now. They don't do so hot when they go through the wash.
I'll look at the Freas hydrometers. Another possibility would be looking into finding a "calibration fluid" that has a known guaranteed SG. I suppose it would also be possible to make my own by starting with distilled water and then adding a specific weight of salt. I know salt water aquarium owners use hydrometers to measure the salt content in their tanks. Now let's see, is my digital scale accurate enough? :S
