Battery SG 1.295? Is that even possible???

...or have I just bought another useless hydrometer that should be tossed along with the one with the 4 floating balls and the EZ-Red?

It is a Hydro Volt and after reading about it, I thought it just might be the "better mouse trap." It is very easy to use and very easy to read, but if it's not accurate down to at least .002 or so, then I don't see the point.

All 6 cells of my two fully charged T105s read 1.295 +/- .001 even though 1.277 should be 100%. I've gone thru this before with other things, my DMM for example. I had one that I've used for years that I started to become suspicious of because it disagreed with the voltage display on my Powermax and the ammeter/voltmeter I had connected to it. Bought a new DMM and what do you know, a 0.3V difference!

I'll just say this, I HATE instruments that are not properly calibrated! Just so frustrating :M
  • Like plugging in a volt meter and seeing 839 volts in the house wiring?

The SOLE hydrometer I have faith in is the FREAS. Go into any battery manufacturer's production area and that's all you'll see. Some engineers carry the prism gravity meters now. They don't do so hot when they go through the wash.

Well I'm not actually trying to lower the SG. I'm just concerned that my new hydrometer isn't reading accurately.

    Hi,

    My batteries are 1.30

What kind of batteries are they?
  • I have a Hydrovolt and have matched it up against my glass float that is a PITA to read because of the wicking along the glass float, AND the unavoidable friction of the float within the glass.

IMO the HydroVolt is way more accurate and more repeatable with the same numbers as the floater (best I can tell through its faults), and I can easily see a repeatable .001 rez on it.

Can't get more anal than that.. :)
  • I rejected EZ Red units that read 1.4 with 1.275 electrolyte
I also have a Chinese quartz clock that loses 6 minutes a week...
LED panel meters that claim 13.0 volts actual is not their 13.55 volts displayed
LED 12-volt lights that swear 200 milliamps of power yield 20 watts of light
A speedometer that reaches up to 120 mph in a car that tops out at 85
Gorilla glue that is Spider Monkey grade including prehensile tail.
Insulated coffee cups that lose more heat than if the coffee is dumped on concrete.
And a drawer full of thermometers that swear sea level boiling water is 196 - 223 degrees F

Buy 4.0 diopter reading glasses and the FREAS expanded-scale hydrometer or continue to listen to mommy-grade bedtime fairy tales.
