Battery Tender Plus

I could have, but didn't know my 7yr old (little) Batt Tender Plus is 4 stage, plus temperature compensated, until I installed one of my trusty cheap china voltmeters in the dash of my boat. I was surprised at the 14.6 startup. Then I noticed the normal 13.3 float voltage creeping down to 12.9 as the temp creeps up to 98-100 thru the day.
No wonder they are now a $50 charger. And I'm glad to know that little tender has been doing a superb job of caring for my batts,...even better than my PD converter ??
Now don't it seem like Deltrans would spend another $1 and put one of those cheap voltmeters in the front panel. They'd probably sell 3x more !

  • I hardwired battery tender plus to chassis battery. Shore power or generator on - battery charging. Almost five years on original coach battery before needing replacement.
  • I think there's a pretty big difference between the Battery Tender Plus and the Battery Tender Jr. I think the Jr. is basically just a trickle charger.

I've had the two battery Battery Tender Plus for at least 5 years and love it, keeps everything just where it ought to be.

Not completely true. It is only thru measuring things, and some help from the battery fanatics here, that I have learned what is important to battery care, and also what isn't.:C

I use the one from HF for $4.99 (made in China) to top off my chassis battery. It seems to stay at around 14.v even when fully charged. My Mangetec 950 converter/charger on the other hand seems to drop as the house batteries get fully charged and float at about 13v. Of course this reading is from my free HF multimeter(made in China).

I bought a Yamaha TW200 from a private party in San Diego a few years back, 330 miles on it. Came with a battery plus Junior. Don't know why but that motorcycle and it's electrics tended to really boil the water out of the battery over a gallon and a half of gas riding around. It wasn't the Junior doing it, it was the voltage regulation while riding around that was, I think, pretty poor. Electric start battery was only 7Ah on that bike.

Still have the Battery Tender Jr. I've no idea if it is temp compensated.

  • I use the battery tender plus on my big bike when it's stored for the summer. It's the best out there for the money. Fires right up upon my return in the winter.
  • RJ keeps advising not to bother with measuring things but also keeps buying meters. In this kind of situation, never mind what they say; watch what they do! :)
