Battery usage

We are new to RV'ing and our Chevy diesel truck broke down at a state rest stop. Good Sams towed our truck to a local shop and we are waiting for them to fix it. We have been at the rest area since Saturday morning, it is now Monday morning, with only battery power (no generator). I put the slide out in the living area of our 5th wheel and have been using the power roof vent to try and keep them inside temp down. My husband is afraid I'm going to run down the battery and not be able to put in the slide. My question is about how long will the battery last before it will need to be recharged.

  • It will take a pretty strong battery, to put the slide in. If it gets too low, to bring slide in, you may get by, jumping with cables, when you get the truck back. Most trailers will have a hand crank for slide, in the event that the battery power will not operate slide.

  • You should be able to pull the slide in from the truck battery when you hitch up.

If the battery gets too low your refrigerator will stop operating.

I am really surprised you are sitting in a rest area. Your emergency road service should have pulled you to an RV park or other safe place.
