I keep hearing about how the grid is in bad shape and how it could fail at any time and I think back about 15 years ago when the transmission lines shorted in Ohio and Michigan, Ohio and parts of the East coast went dark for a week. Hard to forget that.
I was in the dark as well. Prompted me to get a backup generator. I'm not all that sure the current grid could handle the load of thousands of EV's all plugged in, in the evening. Peak demand would go from mid-day to night.
Kind of odd that the big push now is wind power and solar over nuclear but the wind don't blow constantly and it does get dark over much of North America at roughly the same time.
I think the 'smart folks need to think 'clean coal'. We have enough of it and instead of exporting it to China, we should be using it here.
Hydro is great but not everywhere has the potential for hydro power either.
Diesel here is topping $3.35 a gallon at the local truckstop. It's a ways from 4 bucks but it's within shooting range now.
