- ScottGNomadMy S/o made ahorrendous amount of sqeuaking and screaching noise when new. Both dealer and factory said there was nothing that could be done and that "They're all like that".
I had my DW extend and retract the slide while I was under the rig looking for the source of the noise - which I found.
My slide glides back and forth on rubber rollers. These hard rubber rollers use long bolts as axles. It's the friction of the rubber against the metal bolt that made all the noise.
I put a jack under the s/o and lifted it about 1/4", just enough to take the load off the rollers individually. Then I removed each roler and lubricated the inside of them by applying a liberal coat of grease (silicone grease actually - great for rubber) and after that, it was not only silent but it also moved smoother. - old_guyExplorersome manufactures recommend baby power applied with an old sock on the seals and wipe down with a clean sock
- For the gear tracks I use Slip Plate Dry Lube
For the wiper seals I use pledge furniture polish
AND I keep a good coat of wax on the sides of the slides where the wipers rub. - garym114Explorer IIDon't know what brand of slide you have. For my Power Gear the only thong you can lube is the bearings on the shaft that the motor rotates. 30w oil.
- wildtoadExplorer IISlide seals should be kept clean, and the addition of 303 protectant will help reduce damage from UV rays. I have read where some people put talcum power in an old sock and rub down the seals as a dry lube.
- 2oldmanExplorer IINope. Just keep them clean. Much of the noise is the seals.
- donn0128Explorer IIThe gear racks etc? Dry lube is best. The side seals? Things like 303 works.
