Not concerned about the cost of power to keep it on. I pay a basic charge for power and, believe me, I don't come close to using the power I pay for. It stays on for convenience and my concern was that this was negatively effecting the life of the unit.

I guess you don't mind the "gamble" on a $1500-$2500 fridge replacement?
Put it this way, an absorption fridge can be "stored" indefinitely (IE not turned on or in use) without any harm done. My Dad actually has a nifty little portable one (1/2 cu ft)he bought in the early 1970s. It has seen many years of storage time but yet it STILL works when plugged in.
My first TT had the original fridge in it when I bought it and it was a 1981 camper. I bought it and used it from 2000-2006 and the fridge was STILL working.
My current TT, a 1984 when I bought it had the original fridge which had a bad leaky cooling unit. That trailer spent over ten years parked at a permanent site (I have the campground paperwork which is how I know).
Want to take bets on whether that fridge was left on all the time or not?
My bet is that the owner LEFT the fridge on all the time so it would be ready for the weekends.
It IS your money to do what you will with it...
