Isn't the point of this discussion to hear opinions on the better way to preserve that investment? Seems to me the general consensus that letting them continue to run is better.
That said, I do shut down the fridge while winterized. That is usually once a year. The only reason I do this is because I'm unsure about the effect that extreme cold may have if the ambient environment inside the fiver gets down into the teens. Where I live, this is, maybe, a once a year event.
