I like it! Much like a columb counter for a battery system. Keeping track of what goes in and what goes out is the most accurate method.
Only downside I see in the system is the moving parts of the meters. Even with clear water they will foul eventually and start mis-counting.
A doppler based meter would work longer without fouling.
