While on Amazon, I noticed this product which has one bracket that secures to the bottom of the Honda eu2000i generator, another bracket that the generator sits in, which bolts to something like a cargo rack, and a hasp/hockey puck lock to marry the two.Not sure how really secure this is, in the scheme of things, but it would definitely force a thief to do more work than just cutting the generator's handle. I'm sure using a handle bracket plus this will deter all but the most determined.I've yet to see a single review on this, but it might be useful add-on. Of course, the chain as strong as its weakest link, and a lot of hitch mounted cargo racks are not made to securely take the base bracket of this lock.

I think I would prefer to get one of the boxes Honda makes for the 2000 and have it be out of sight and out of mind. I don't care how good the lock is, if they can see it, someone will take a shot at it. You could always pick up a ugly old open frame and set it out in view. It wouldn't even need to run and the thieves and neighbors alike would drive on by. lol

I figure that since the invention of the cordless grinder the traditional locks are useless. That looks like the recessed type lock that is more common on contractors vans etc. Its pretty much a matter of making it as difficult as possible and to buy time. Snatch and run is the easiest for them so again, the more difficult it is, the better chance of it not being stolen. Maybe something like that and a piece of steel that goes through the handle opening and down and under the mounting surface with a recessed type lock. It would have to be hinged to make make the corners of course. Again, its not that it couldn't be cut but it would give multiple layers of protection. That's the only problem with those sweet little Hondas. :)

Certainly is not a cheap item at $199...I still say the best defense against thief is OUT OF SIGHT - OUT OF MIND...My 2KW Honda generator is not in view when stowed and secured in place sitting in the tailgate corner of my truck locked and covered bed... I had a Honda V65 Magna (motor cycle) that had a built in anti theft cable. It just plugged into t spot on the frame and locked with the key - had loop on the other end. I wonder why they don't offer such an option for their gens. They'd sell a ton of those cables.

This is what I came up with for what it's worth. I'm very satisfied with the results and feel I've created a solution that will allow me to sleep unconcerned with my generator in the back of my truck. They'll have to wake me up to get it.
If you didn't know, these generators have a plastic bottom frame, so a good pry bar would even bust one out of the lockdown pro. Not to mention that a pry bar would probably get the lockdown pro base separated from your truck bed as well.

Go with something like this Lock 'n' Load from Torklift, they would have to cut more than the handle to get anything out of this carrier....built like a brick you-know-what....

I just purchased an eu2000i and bought the $40 theft deterrent bracket for the handle. That seemed to be rather inexpensive insurance to slow down the casual thief. If they really want it I guess they'll still get it.

90% of the people in this world are honest and you don't need to protect against them.
5% of the people in this world would steal your generator if it is easy. Locks will prevent this.
The other 5% are going to steal it no matter what you do short of a 24/7 armed guard.

IMO...use a lock and cable etc to protect from the 95% and enjoy your generator.

I am beginning to think that this risk is overblown. Likely by those that are selling security devices for them.
In the unlikely event that it should happen to me, I will let my insurance do it's job and get a new one... Heck mine have go a ton of hours on them anyways.

In my course of looking for a used Honda EU2000i generators, over a 6 month period before buying, I came across two Honda's that had cut handles, both were at pawn shops in the Northwest, one in Portland, the other in Tacoma, advertising on Craigslist. The third was in Las Vegas on Craigslist, a private party sale. All of the ads featured pictures, and all of them indeed, in the pictures had cut handles.

They do exist, and I don't support buying what appears to be stolen property. I remember quite clearly the city's they were for sale in.

With all the talk about Honda handles being cut to steal them... I have been looking hard for one to purchase. I figure that since that would be a dead giveway that the unit was stolen that it could be purchased really cheap as it would be practically worthless. :B I have never seen one. I have also never read where anyone actually had it done to theirs, or of anyone who has actually seen one. I have never seen anyone using a cut handle Honda as well.

I have one, was included with my generator when I got it. Not bullet proof but makes a 5-second theft job (cutting through the plastic handle) into a 1-minute job (hacksaw cable or metal handle).

I had a Honda V65 Magna also, best bike I ever had !! Which was a bunch !

They were animals wern't they. When I test drove it I cracked the throttle at 50 MPH and the back tire (a cheapo) started to spin. I was hooked. :)

I have a tub I cut slits in and run a cable lock through it and the handle of the Honda EU2000i. Here's a picture that shows my setup with the generator locked to a tree. When it is in storage mode, it looks like a tub!
