Bought a Hopkins "Endurance" model today -- this appears to be better made than the standard cheap-o models, although it still has the crappy rubber grommet in the back that has no chance of sealing. I will glop some silicone in there when done. I haven't installed it yet, but it appears to have more room inside the housing, and the housing slides on easier than the standard units. So overall it looks like it's a 50% improvement. I looked at the all-metal one, but wondered if the whole blasted thing would just corrode to death.
I wish some manufacturer would have the sense to supply these with a stainless steel (or aluminum) mounting bracket, and s/s hardware. The plated junk doesn't last, and the powder coated bracket isn't much better. I will throw out the fasteners and use stainless instead, so I can get the stupid thing apart again in 3 years when I have to replace it again.
Still not really satisfied ... there's an opportunity for someone to make a much better product.
