I'm really having a feeling that what your friend experienced is my problem. I'm picturing the pipe is sticking too far into the tank. If I knew how to remove and reinstall the black tank and sealing the pipe successfully I'd do it but I don't know...
With that said, my last camper was a TT and never an issue. A close friend of mine whom we camp with frequently has had many used campers and never an issue either and he's not really much one to be very meticulous about using enough water/maintaining the black tank etc...
