Blackwater Tank Question

How long can it be kept in the tank....LONG TIME

I normally dump about once every 1-2 weeks winter.. 2 weeks summer

My Summer sked.. I move between two CG's 2 weeks in each.> At one I hook up. Tank up and dump (Fresh water is tank up) at the other. Just plug in do not hook up any hoses.

Winter it is 2 weeks (in the park I hook up in ) and one out so I may dump "Mid visit.. Or not.. Depending on how I feel

Of course all of the above answers assumes that the RV will be in temperatures that are above freezing.

As long as there is plenty of water in the tank, you have nothing to worry about.

I've never had a problem having some waste in the tank for short term storage but I always make sure there is plenty of water in the tank. Then, it's best to take it for a good ride or trip to shake things up and then dump as soon as you're hooked up at a campground or can get to a dump station.

As long as you have enough liquid and chemicals in the tank you should be okay. I've gone as long as a month after a trip without dumping the tanks. Everything was fine. I even forgot to dump a portable potty after a tent camping trip for 6 months. It rinsed out fine.

I've gone 30 days or more without dumping my 40 gallon tank while living in my TT and me being the only occupant. I'd usually dump once a month and give it a good rinse about every other time. No crust in the bottom of the tank. I used plenty of black tank chemical buying the 32 oz size adding a little once a week. I use Angle Soft TP in the trailer and at home.

Never had a problem with the dreaded poo piramyd. I did have to use a stick on occasion to push the floating TP from the last flush that had not quite dissolved and settled away from hole as the tank was getting full allowing a couple more days use until I had time to dump and rinse the tank.

When we're boondocking, it's normal to only dump when full. Normally that is 7 to 10 days. We have never had any trouble dumping. Before leaving to dump, we top the tank off with water so it gets swished around while driving to the dump station. Always do a good flush when dumping, our trailer has a built in flush nozzle like most newer units.

Then again, if it's easy to take it out, drive it around the block or even shake it up in the storage area, then put it back, that might help too.

My buddy left his tank sitting like that for a month and it created a hard, thick crust on the bottom of the tank. It was VERY hard (and nasty) to get rid off. He had to dump bucket after buck of water down the toilet and each time some of the scum would break loose. Then he had to transport that in another bucket to a toilet (no hookups).
I would not let it sit any long than you have to but I've left ours partially full between trips which are every couple of weeks without issue.

Thirty-six hours isn’t a long time. It’s plenty of water as wress said. Heck, I boondock almost a week without dumping.
