Technical detail as wire loss reduces the voltage, amps are unchanged. Hence there is less power at the end of the wire to charge. Example: 5A at 14.8V is the maximum charge while 5A at 13.6V is less of a charge.
5 amps is what is charging the batt not power
The controller is set for say 14.4V. With Vdrop the batt will be lower when the controller is at 14.4
The batt still has to get to that from the amps and then stay at that V while amps taper.
Both wires do the almost the same amps means almost same charging times. The OP sees 14 or less not 14.4, but for how long and thinks the batt is full. Doubt that How much less would SOC be with the longer wire that would matter?
He is undercharging off grid so needs to desulfate at home
