I was replacing the struts on my rear window on the hinged door that raises up on my canapy,or some people call it camper shell that sits over my p/up bed. The glass shattered into a million pieces. How did anyone who had this problem get it replaced? Glass Companys will not touch it, RV Places will not replace. So what do I do? My DW said "just buy another shell"I told her the shell I bought in 2000 cost $1,100 and they have doubled in price. One Company said they would replace the door and cost would be $621.00 total

Did you check with your insurance agent? When I worked at an agency, we knew of 2 facilities in the area that would do glass on pickup toppers and pickup campers, back hatch window glass etc. They may know of someone.Or - if the frame is still good, could you put plexiglass in it?

Around 1990, I did something really stupid with my Chevy S-10 truck camper. I had a rope hanging from the ceiling of the carport and the rear window of the shell open. When I pulled out, the rope caught the handle on the rear window (door) of the shell and shattered the glass into oblivion.I checked everywhere I could possibly find (this was before the days of public Internet you know). I couldn't find anywhere that would fix it. I had no choice but to purchase a new shell. Maybe things have changed since then.

I am surprised that glass companies won't touch it. Are these ones that will do windshields and other automotive glass work, or only residential stuff, or preferably both? Also, have you enquired of the cap maker if you can get replacement glass or a replacement door/window?The glass was obviously tempered safety glass, as it ought to be (it may well be legally required to be safety glass of some sort). Getting a replacement, if you can't obtain the glass from the cap maker, would involve cutting a piece of untempered flat glass to shape and having it tempered before installation. I would think that most decent glass companies would be capable of this sort of work, though they may well have to sub out the tempering to a specialist company. Plexiglass or Lexan (polycarbonate) is not a bad idea, as was suggested above.

A quick Google search reveals that many auto glass companies will repair camper shell glass. Call around.

When my truck cap suffered vandalism an auto glass repair shop fixed me up, no problem. Even replaced the original clear glass with tinted.

I just figured you could seal it up with something until then. Sounds like others have had success with auto glass shops, however.

I broke the rear window in my truck cap - local glass company replaced it no issue. Not sure why they won't for you...

Pickup Truck rear glass of cab. Use glass cutter to fit. Same type of safety glass.

The local glass company replaced mine with Polycarbon (plastic). I think is was $20.00.
