Is modifying your emission legal with a tune? All of them state "for off road use or racing only" ie not for on road public use, so why would a board like this promote illegal products and behavior, with polluting the air more with an unauthorized product, certainly not CARB, or DOT approved pollution standards.
May lessen the pollutants? That's laughable. Just because you burn less fuel does not mean you are generating less pollutants, based on type of pollutant. Lessening fuel consumption involves raising the burn temperature of your fuel to generate more efficiency. Raising the burn temperature is certain to raise the NOX output out the tail pipe, as it takes a hotter burn to reach the threshold temperature to cause the Nitrogen and oxygen to chemically bind and form NOX.
Can you present to us any tuner that has had their Tune approved by CARB and the DOT for meeting all pollution standards?
I know the tests and pollution standard certifications are quite expensive, there's a ton of world wide VW diesel product that enthusiasts would like to see in North America, but the testing fees are so high, that VW.de can't justify the additional expense to have each engine model tested to CARB and DOT pollution standards. Therefore, I would find it even more prohibitive for a tuner to pay for testing on all the various tunes they offer out there, as being street legal. One minor parameter change, and the whole chip tune program needs to be retested and certified. That's unlikely to happen.
Frankly, because I live in CA, and I've seen so many gross polluters and coal roller trucks brought in from out of state get cited by either CARB or the SCAQMD, we had diesel sedans banned here in CA from 2002 to 2009. Pretty much because of the truck boys, idiot tunes, and p*ssing off the clean air Prius smug liberal hippy's which lobbied CARB to ban all diesel sedans from CA. I really don't want to see diesels banned again in CA. Clean air belongs to everyone, it's everyone's responsibility to help maintain it.
