I would not use standard building wire for DC systems like thhn posted from Lowes.
Some car stereo stores have good selection of wire.

x2 online is expensive for wire. I purchased 4/0 welding cable (with the nice EPDM insulation) locally for $1 a foot.

West Marine has both battery and marine wire. It has better insulation then some wire.
The more strands the better flexibility.
