the portable 18v, makes the controller think the batteries are full
the primary controller 'sees' the higher voltage as the battery voltage
and shuts down goes to float
removing the tilted aimed portable panels, removes that voltage from the battery side
the primary controller then senses the 'real' battery voltage
and starts charging again
keep in mine the applied voltage from the portable panels is higher in the late afternoon than the voltage from the roof panels
higher v*500ma could equal the same power as lower v*2amps
depending on the voltages involved
its the higher V of the portable that makes the primary think the batteries are fully charged
thinking in Watts instead of Amps, sometimes clarifies the situation
