Cable Requirements for PD4655 Converter

I have the infamous WFCO 8955 converter in my toy hauler. Considering upgrading to a PD4655 to reduce my battery charge times.

I have approx. 8-10 feet of 6 gauge cable that runs from my battery to my converter. I get the impression from several posts that this is too small gauge of cable (for the run length) and may limit the PD4655's charge current when it's in the 14.4 volt bulk mode.

True? False?

I upgraded mine to #4, but Winnebago had put #8 in there.
  • Don't worry about it. Even if it does slow the battery charge a little bit it won't be much and you will barely notice it.
  • Run length ie:total length of 'circuit' run is the round trip distance from/to battery

6awg cable is good for 50A up to total length of 15'
For your run (8-10' one way) 4awg cable would be better suited.
  • #6 would be borderline.
If it is easy to replace I would go up at least one wire size to #4.
