--Yes, get the controller as close as possible. You don't need to see the display. Just have a voltmeter gizmo you stick in a 12v socket (some have USB slots too) and keep an eye on voltage once in a while. Actually, a real monitor is possibly more info than you really need--IMO wait on that and see if you want one after trying it with just the voltmeter display.
