PT, are you saying the inverter's on/off switch does not turn it off? AFAIK mine does. It is not like leaving it on but having no 120v appliance load. I have not noticed any draw when it is turned off. is there any? A television is still on standby when you turn it "off".
I do not have a disconnect on the DC input side of any inverter installed. It would have to be a big amp rated switch.
BFL13,
The way to test:
Turn off the inverter.
Disconnect it from the batteries.
Wait.
Reconnect the inverter.
If there is a spark, then the capacitors in the inverter are being charged up. If there is no spark--then the "off" switch works to remove all power.
Mine sparks.
My inverter switches (because of the two banks) are 200 amps continuous and 1000 amps contacting.
The amount of power is tiny--but when off is not really off, I'm not a happy camper.
