Leave as is with the four batts in parallel, but change up to #1 AWG when doing the four 6s in series /parallel. (for the interconnects--use whatever gauge the inverter manual says for inverter-bank)
I have about 5 ft too, and I use #1 AWG for inverter-bank. I get about 0.8v drop with the MW or toaster or kettle. So if the batts are 12.2v 50% in the morning, I will see 11.4v at first and it will stay above 11v inverter alarm during the appliance's on time.
If I used fatter wire from the inverter, I would get less voltage drop, but 50% SOC on the batts is the low, so I don't need fatter wire to stop the inverter alarming. YMMV
