Heat forms when there is excessive resistance. Campground outlets are abused when folks plug and unplug with a load turned on. The contacts are burned on the plug and the outlet and then the resulting contact surface has resistance causing heat at that point. Cheap brass or expensive brass contacts will have the same problem.
I plug and unplug multiple times, to wipe the contact area, before turning on the power.
