If you have to ask the question, then your not qualified to make the conversion with safety. Not being a jerk, just my evaluation.
Doing what you described takes a real knowledge of what you want to end up with and avoid the pitfalls. One hiccup and you have toasted a lot of expensive equipment. My suggestion is to just replace the plug with a high quality 30 amp plug. Just doing that isn't without risk....you have to get the polarity correct.
