Can the springs on slide toppers be re-tensioned?

I was told by a local RV Tech that the springs on my slide toppers could not be tightened up. Is this true, or was he "blowing smoke"? I know from experience that the spring on garage door openers ca...

mine broke. a tech replaced it. but it took two of us to torque up the spring which requires a set number of turns. i would not tackle the job alone. in fact, i couldn't even if i wanted to.
