Can't find battery 2014 Forrester Class C

Question

I know, I know, make them show you where the battery is before you leave the dealer. They said it was behind the panel to the left in the stairwell, but it isn't. That's just fuses and stuff. I'm pretty sure. The manual is no help. I've crawled around underneath and removed the rubber cover from the top step all to no avail. Anybody know where it is?

The reason I'm looking is that I'm trying to hook up solar.

Thank you!! I thought I had completely removed the top of the step, but the battery cover underneath was stuck on tight. With your advice , I used a flathead screwdriver to get it off, and there were the batteries right there.

Incidentally, I seem to have 2 12 volt batteries. Does it matter which one I hook up my solar panels to?

Yes, it matters. Look closely at the existing connections. Ground on one battery should go to frame, positive on other battery should go to the 12 volt DC distribution panel. You should connect solar input in the same locations.
If batteries are not connect in that manner, you should revise them to connect in that way.
