Can't post. Tried yesterday and today Xantrex problem

Looking to repair/replace Xantrex Prosine 2.0 Thinking of Quartzite.

We are in Puerto Vallarta heading towards Vancouver Island. Leaving here in a week or so.

Well that went OK, perhaps the other one was too long?

And then in 2008 Xantrex was purchased by French Schneider which is in turn owned by Ametec which is a "multinational corporation", i.e. not USA anymore.

I agree with the rest of the post. Acidity levels in the Pacific are rising. New environmental guru appointed by the great blonde leader has declared that carbon emissions have no effect on climate change. I can't wait to hear their next revelation - probably that the Earth is flat.
  • Xanax purchased Trace in the 1990's. Lucky for me, my 4024 was made in the USA. I subsequently have disassembled several Xantrex units. Piece by piece, I chased down spec sheets and found component specifications downgraded from when Trace was at the helm. 200 volt transistors were eliminated, 100-volt replaced them. 20-amp full wave bridge rectifiers were replaced by seven amp. Heat sink area was reduced. Quarter-watt resistors replaced by eighth watt.

The result is what the OP experienced - stuff ain't worth snot if it breaks and cannot be fixed. Landfill psychology has infused the market and if the great blond leader in the house of white has good sense he would mandate all large electronic products sold in the USA to have the means to be on-shore repairable.

Where is the "break-point?" I would have to nominate if the device rates as an appliance. What is happening today is a country is depleting natural resources at a staggering rate - manufacturing too much junk that ends up as landfill because the garbage is not repairable. TV flickers? throw it away. Microwave sits there and grins at you? Toss it. Mandate modular design that permits incremental repairs to be made. With the political insanity dealing with climate, few seem to realize coal-fired pollution is turning the Yellow Sea, The South China Sea, and Sea of Japan into a sterile acid bath. Then "their" trawlers come to the western hemisphere - to clear cut the ocean.
Bottom line: I recommend finding a repairable unit or units to resolve this problem. And avoid if at all possible Chinese garbage that has no possible linkage to repair parts and service.
  • There is a guy at Discount solar in Q that repairs them. Craig is the owner.
  • I heard somewhere that there was someone in Quartzite who did that.

I can see where separate components would be an advantage. The only problem is space close to the batteries. The original placement for the converter was under the drawer beneath the stove. The connections from that are I think # 4 or 6 and are on the other side of the rig and roughly 10 feet forward of the batteries. That is a very long run for 100 amps which my 6V GS will take. I would keep the inverter where the Prosine 2.0 is now, very close to the batteries.

Here are some photos of the battery and inverter installation from our blog. The other is the space under the stove where we had the solar controller connection to the original converter connection. (Solar controller is now in the compartment where the inverter is. No room there for a charger.

  • I have come to accept that it's not a question of IF my prosine 2.0 will fail, but only WHEN it will fail. This is very frustrating because I don't know of another charger with as many features or as nice of operation as the prosine 2.0. I'm thinking of things like the power factor correction, input power limit setting, all the other configuration options, and the nice info display. Does anybody know of another charger that's equal or better for use with a small generator?
  • Good luck on repairs with a Xantrex unless you find a local independent tech that is good.

What are you inclined to replace it with?

I advocate for separate components. Converter, transfer switch, inverter.

Been to the Q and the prices did not match general internet shopping.
Could be more difficult for warranty returns etc.

Yes, the server cuts you off when you keep typing for too long. When this happens, I copy/paste and go to Goodsam's portal: http://forums.goodsamclub.com/index.cfm. They never cut off.
