1. Slide Toppers do NOT have motors. NONE have a motor
2. Is the bang constant or only during the first few inches of extension?
3. Are you positive it is a Carefree Slide Topper? I ask because your research on line had pointed to a motor and NONE have a motor.
4. NEW unit, Do NOT mess with it. Take it back to the dealer. It is under warranty. Doug
