Caulking type...

Question

Well, my RV now almost 5 yrs old is showing signs of needing re-caulking...The roof still looks pretty good, but around the baggage doors, fresh water fill, shore power hatch, and tail lights the caulk has become mostly cracked...I spoke to one dealer who recommended silicon, but opinions seem to vary as another stated that silicon attracts dirt...Any advice is well appreciated!

Most of the places you mention use a butyl tape instead of caulk.  Dicor caulk (there are two kinds, one for the roof, and one for the vertical surfaces, is a good brand if caulk is in order.

Geocel 28101V Pro Flex White RV Flexible Sealant - 10 oz. on Amazongets good reviews. Silicone is said to be a nightmare to remove. Pete

Silicone will fail. I used a Geocel product, it is holding up well.

DAP makes a clear sealant, the caulk gun tube is clear as well. It does not attract dirt, mold or yellow like clear silicone. I used it along the top of all the windows. It smooths out nicely with a liberal amount of mineral spirits if needed.
