Ceiling Lights - Hot

After several years of use, a couple of the high use 12vdc ceiling lights in my TT are starting to show signs of lens heat discoloration... (clear lenses look somewhat burnt/orange)... I have extra len's for replacements BUT it will happen again I am sure... Will replacing the 12vdc incandescant bulbs (don't have # now) with led replacements cool this situation or is there something else I should look at?

Especially if you have any plastic base. One of ours melted. You'll wish you put in LED sooner than later if you have to change any bases.
  • Yep LEDs will take care of your heat issue. Look for color temp of 2700 to closely match your incandescent lights. 3000 is slightly cooler light, but still nice.
  • Unknown which lights you have. When I converted from Halogen to LED for 5 lights my power consumption dropped from 7.91amps to .91amps. I don't recall the exact amount of heat reduction.

    LED ideas
  • LED's do run much cooler, (like no heat at all) And you are correct, the lens will continue to deteriorate due to the heat from the probably 57 bulbs. Also the LED's only use an iota of voltage that the standard bulbs do and will last almost forever.
  • Yes, LED's dissipate much less heat. If replacing, it is a no-brainer, get thee some LED's.
