Buy a DUPLEX RECEPTACLE BOX
Buy a pair of ROMEX 1/2" clamps
Buy a PIGTAIL on eBay or Amazon. 14 gauge
Chop the pigtail on the heater, where you want the thermostat to go
Buy the stupid thermostat
FOLLOW THE PICTURES IN THE DIRECTIONS
Holymole, did you guys ever buy presents for your kids that had SOME ASSEMBLY NEEDED?
And have the intuition to post images here asking what was what inside the heater? What do I cut? Where does this wire go?
There is a great difference between avoiding stuff because it's not Plug & Play
a) Genuinely Confusing
b) Laziness
"Harrumph! Some dishwasher this turned out to be! For only nine thousand dollars more I can get the model that reaches out to the table, snatches dirty plates and silverware, and loads itself. But I'll wait...the price is bound to come down and it's inevitable a new model will feature the dishwasher unloading itself and stacking stuff in cupboards and drawers"
When I expend a little time and effort I get what I WANT. EXACTLY WHAT I WANT.
Example I have an OLD Fantastic Fan Endless Breeze.
The On/Off selector switch failed (garbage grade)
So I go to the hardware store and by a LINE VOLTAGE knob dial Air Conditioner switch. Then to Del City Dot Com and Purchased an On/On/On toggle switch
The dial thermostat clicks on and off as well as adjusts for temperature.
ENLARGE the hole where the original switch WAS
And drill a 1/2" hole alongside for the On/On/On switch
There is an OBVIOUS line voltage to original switch feed wire. Join that to the pigtail lead of the line voltage thermostat. Review the direction's picture diagram.
There is an obvious pigtail OUT of the thermostat. No need to switch NEUTRAL so join the negative wire direct to the fan motor 12 volt negative (ground) wire.
The thermostat OUT wire runs to the On/On/On switch.
The ORIGINAL switch has THREE wires heading to the motor.
One at a time, cut and connect the the three terminals of the On/On/On toggle switch.
When I want to use this fan...
I rotate the dial of the thermostat and then by virtue of the readings on the DIAL I know where the room temperature is -- when the fan starts is where the room temperature is.
So I rotate the dial to where I think the fan should shut off. Today, I want it to shut off at around 78F.
Do I select LOW or MEDIUM or HIGH fan speed with the toggle switch? Depends.
Then the fan is running when I go to bed. I fall asleep. In the early morning hours, the fan will shut itself off. I am in dreamland.
I may or may not be awake when the room temperature rises and the fan starts up. But when I does, I'll know the temperature is rising.
The secret to this -- is knowing "I can do it with the help of forum member assistance" by posting images and asking questions.
Which is true with most things technical.
I am NOT GOING TO PAY thirty-five dollars from Fantastic Fan for a two-dollar switch.
If I have to repair something I will modify it and make it work THE WAY I WANT IT TO.
If I enlist help, I would take photos of stuff BEFORE disconnecting wires. More photos of stuff I intend to use.
But then the call of the La-Z-Boy brewkies and potato chips, is almost overwhelming in it's intensity...
