I've never had any trouble with red Sta-bil. I don't know if that's because it works pretty well or if it's because Vermont gas stored over a Vermont winter just doesn't need much in the way of stabilization or because I've been lucky or what...but I also don't intend to run out and buy a different color just because it's said by some to be better.

I'm with the couple last posters of using the red sta-bil for many years in chainsaws, lawn mowers and my generators and never have had a problem starting any of them even after sitting for months.

I use Propane to power my portable generator for home use. No Stabilizer needed. :B

As an aside because it is something I learned when much younger, I was told never to spray anything into an engine air intake unless the engine was cranking over. Something about the fluid being very flammable and puddling in the air intake and the possibility of backfire and blowing burning starter fluid out onto you or the vehicle.

Most of the oldwizared's ideas are good but as mentioned above, crank the engine as you spray . In your case get a helper to spray while you pull the recoil starter rope.

Yes I did read about tilting the genny and letting the excess drain out, just not as safe.

My yamaha genny doesn't like the red sta-bil. It does like sea foam.

Why not a shot of ether to diagnose whether fuel or ignition problem?

A 1 second shot in the air filter followed immediately by a goof yank of the starting cord should result in coughing sputtering and running for a few seconds if a fuel problem, or spinning without any attempt to start if an ignition problem.

I would put a new spark plug in before anything else. Get an NGK brand.
Seen them look fine and chase my tail for a whole weekend just to have it fire right up with a new plug.

Could be a gummed up carb for sure, but try the cheap and easy stuff first.

UPDATE,,,, okay, drained all gas, took carb out and clean and blew it out with air, installed new plug but fresh gas in and went to start.
pulled the rope one time and the engine started and sputtered and the green light came on (showing making power) than after about 4 or 5 seconds the engine died and tried to start again AND NOTHING. NO SPUTTER NO NOTHING.....
So any suggestions to go further or its time for the shop???? I would assume it was getting spark since it did start for a few seconds.
Anything else to try, let me know.

Are all of the hoses in good shape and not dry rotted or cracked in anyway.
