I'm not sure how to turn off the converter/charger though. Don't I have to have it on in order to use the power supplied by the batteries?
pnichols, I'm definitely going to be charging with a different charger than the stock converter/charger. Although it would be nice to just plug my camper into the generator to do the charging, it won't offer me the quick charging I'll have to do with short generator time limits where we're going at 13.6v
Your WFCO is mostly likely wired through it's own breaker on the front panel - mine is so I simply turn it off, the rest of the trailer is still powered. If you plug your trailer's main service cable into the genset then obviously all 120 vac circuits in the trailer will be powered - except the WFCO which you've turned off. Plug another converter or portable charger into any 120 vac receptacle and it too will obviously be powered. In my case, I simply pulled an extra feed from one of the duplex receptacles located next to the bed and ran it over to the front wall of the front pass through cargo compartment and installed another receptacle where I'll secure my CTEK once spring arrives. Obviously when that receptacle is powered so too will the CTEK ... no reason at all you can't do the same with whatever charger you choose.
