Just got off the phone with PowerMax. They do have newer units as advertised...switchable to either single stage adjustable to 16.5v or automatic 3 stage. There are 2 similar units like that but one is a hundred bucks cheaper at about $150 for the 75amp unit. The spendy unit has a knob to control the voltage, digital voltage readout and long jumper cables. The less expensive unit has a hole in the side for a screwdriver to adjust the voltage and no digital readout or cables. I ordered the less expensive version. The 75amp unit draws around 13amps not 7amps.
Ok that should be the new line-up of units coming out. I will try to find out more, such as when they will update the website.
EDIT--ok these are not the ones you see advertised on boatandrv which have the errors in the blurbs on them as previously mentioned. These are early versions of the new type that they hope to get some feedback on before the main product launch. ( I suppose so they can fix things if required)
So besides your report back to PM, of course you will copy us here on what you think of it :)
Yep, I'll report back :) I think whatever I'm getting is a transition model (my word not his) that hasn't been fully distributed yet. In about 4 months he said the new (?) models will be out. I can't remember what the new changes included. Think I'll find out tomorrow AM.
One big change that might please even old time2roll, is that the "bulk" stage when doing the normal 3- stage is "longer." No idea how much longer. Be very interested if you can tell about that.
There should be a second hole in the side to access the switch for being either 3 stage or single voltage ADJ.
The prototype of that had an "issue" where you had to be careful which way the switch was before changing voltage with the pot or else it screwed up the 3 stage voltages. It went back to default settings after turning the whole thing off for a while and starting over. Should be some instructions with it, but who knows? :)
The prototype also had an "issue" where it did not hold constant amps (current limit) but sort of slid off down like a PD does. I hope they fixed that! You can check that out easily enough.
