Randy's opinion on temperature control is that it makes very little difference in everyday battery charging and didn't feel it was a concern. He was aware of the gauge cable I have, the length of it and that I wanted a fast charge so you should probably strike up a conversation with him if you disagree with his recommendation.
Nah, I've read
East Penn's GEL / AGM Technical Manual pretty thoroughly and unlike some I've chosen to accept the manufacturer's warning that temp compensation charging is a
requirement, not an option, when charging one of their AGM batteries. Right now I'm using my portable CTEK Multi US 7002 to bulk charge @ 14.4 volts but because my current battery is flooded it doesn't require temp compensation which the 7002 doesn't offer. When the time comes to replace this battery I do plan to go with an East Penn which here in Canada is sold as an RV Care branded battery but in reality is a Deka, or Duracell branded battery which you intend to go with. Since East Penn's position is that temp compensation
must be used with any of their AGMs I'll also have to consider to do about my charger situation since I currently don't own anything with temp compensation. I could solve that easily by replacing the 7002 with a
CTEK Multi US 25000 but that's even more $$$ in addition to the cost of the battery itself. :( That issue alone may be enough to convince me to stick with a good ol' flooded which according to East Penn does not require temp compensation charging.
