So does that 50% + or - (or 100%) increase in weight per cell matter for a real house battery...or not?
I say not at all. The term 'house battery' tends to indicate deep cycle which is the characteristic of sustaining deeper discharges over the life of the battery in terms of SOC%. It is a general fact that thick plates are associated with deep cycle.
A single cell 2.1V battery could easily weigh 100lbs and that tells you nothing about plate thickness.
My 100lb 12V batteries are rated for 260 complete discharges to 0% SOC. I still do not know thick or thin.
