By far the most expensive way to charge batteries is using a generator, so using an appropriate voltage to get as many amps into the bank as quickly as possible is the goal.
At a pedestal, multi stage or 13.2 volts both work well.
AGM have a different charging profile, depending on the maker. They generally have much lower internal resistance. It is best to follow the maker's recommendations.
