I have a Schumacher sc2500a charger.
It works fine as a converter, powering loads, cycling loads just fine on the 12 amp setting.
However on the 2 amp or 25 amp setting, turning off an 0.8 amp load will cause the charger to shut off, and my cycling 12v compressor fridge will **** down the charger the first cycle.
Modern converters are designed to handle cycling loads, powering loads whilst charging batteries.
Your battery charger might deal with it, or it might not. You can let us know after you try.
