Charging issue on 1983 Jamboree Class C

Hello, all. I have gotten some great help on other issues, but here is a new one.

My main battery is not charging, but when the engine is running I see 17 volts at the heat sink/regulator looking block on the passenger side of the engine bay. When I plug in to shore power, it looks like my aux. battery does charge.

What I need is some help understanding how the charging circuit works in my RV, so I can troubleshoot the current problem. Here are the pieces I see.

Looking at the main battery I see several things. There is a regulator looking thing with 3 wire connections on it. There is another relay below that with a wire going to the battery positive post with a thick cable and there is another (looks like starter) relay further back.

The shorter battery cable is connected to the relay under the large heat sink with 3 connections. The longer battery positive cable goes back a little and connects to the "starter relay" at the back.

The center of the relay/regulator looking part is connected directly to the alternator and gives 17 volts when the engine is running. I believe my alternator is OK. The top wire connection goes to what looks like the starter relay and the bottom wire was connected to three wires that look like they were all soldered together. That connection is corroded/broken.

I am going to re-connect the bottom wire from the regulator to that broken cluster of wires and see if that fixes the charging problem.

My best guess is that the larger starter relay (toward the back) is used to start the RV. The second relay (under the regulator) allows you to tie the aux. battery into the starter power supply for emergency use. I think that the alternator charges the main battery via the connection of the regulator block (top wire) to the starter relay toward the back. I think the regulator looking block is where I am having a problem.

The biggest issue is that I cannot find a maintenance book or schematic showing how the batteries are tied together through that whole pack of parts on the passenger side of the engine bay. Does anyone have a schematic they can share?

Thanks for any and all help.

Jose
