Charging system.

Hi. I just bought a 84 holiday Aluma lite xl. (Plz let me know if I'm posting in the wrong section of the forums) the alternator was replaced yesterday but when I turned the engine on about 4 fuses blew, my friends cell phone was plugged into the 12v sys & will not turn on anymore. I thought it was the alternator but it tested OK at AutoZone. Voltage regulator?? Any help is appreciated. Thx.
  • Its on a Chevy. 454. My skills are self educated, (not certified in any way) but I have changed head gaskets, rebuilt heads successfully. I don't think there is anything under the hood I don't know about. I'm sure I don't know electrical like I know mechanical but I do know how to use a multimeter. Tools I have access to.
  • This cannot be "tested" without causing more damage so don't start the engine! Period!

What chassis does your rig have? Dodge? Chevrolet? Ford? Somehow alternator regulator voltage reference has been lost. About 350,000 words could fill in all the permutations, but let's be smart and narrow things down first.

What are your mechanical repair limitations? Aptitude? Tools? Instruments?
